Almost 6 million people traveled on LTG Link trains in 2025
Last year, 5.9 million people traveled on LTG Link trains, which is more than double the population of Lithuania. The majority of passengers chose local routes for productive and sustainable travel, while interest in international travel continued to grow.
"We are constantly improving rail transport connections. We have adjusted timetables to make them more convenient for residents, trains to the regions run more frequently, and new international routes have been opened. This fall, we will offer travel on the latest trains – LTG's fleet will be expanded with 15 new rolling stock units. This will make train travel more convenient and faster, and there will be enough seats for everyone," says Minister of Transport Juras Taminskas.
Compared to 2024, LTG Link transported almost 350,000 more passengers last year. 5.3 million residents chose to travel within the country, with Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius remaining the most popular route, used by just over 2 million residents. The Vilnius–Klaipėda–Vilnius and Vilnius–Turmantas–Vilnius routes were also among the most popular, while the largest increase in passenger traffic was recorded on the Kaunas–Šiauliai–Kaunas route.
The steady growth in passenger numbers was also influenced by the strengthening of international connections – last year, almost 115,000 residents chose international travel, 10% more than in 2024. Most of them traveled on the Vilnius–Riga–Vilnius route, with 66,000 residents traveling to Latvia last year. Shorter travel times and more frequent trips ensured a greater flow of travelers to Poland. In 2025, approximately 49,000 passengers chose to travel to Poland, which is 21% more than in 2024.
"We see that trains are becoming an increasingly important part of everyday transport in Lithuania – people are looking for more convenient and sustainable ways to travel. I am delighted that every year more and more passengers are discovering trains as a reliable everyday choice. Our task is to ensure that traveling by train is easy, pleasant, and accessible to everyone," says Kristina Meidė, head of LTG Link.
As in previous years, the increase in passenger numbers was influenced by improvements in the travel experience and discounts on train tickets. In 2025, on two days – Train Travelers' Day and International Car-Free Day – passengers were able to purchase tickets for local routes at a 90% discount. On Train Travelers' Day, more than 33,000 passengers traveled by train – significantly more than on a normal day.
LTG Link offers travelers a total of 24 routes, with up to 200 trips per day.
LTG Link has an ambitious strategic goal – to reach 10.3 million passengers per year by 2030. This growth is expected to be further driven by changing travel habits among the population and the new Stadler trains that will begin passenger service this year.
