Train service has been fully restored following the accident in Jiesia
While the LTG team was working at the scene of the incident in Jiesia (Kaunas District), where freight cars derailed, affecting passenger and freight train traffic and damaging the railway infrastructure on both standard and broad-gauge tracks, traffic has been fully restored.
Passenger train service on the Kaunas–Kybartai–Kaunas, Kaunas–Marijampolė–Kaunas, and Vilnius–Mockava–Vilnius routes will operate according to the regular schedule, and freight trains and transit trains will also run without disruption.
“Even in the face of such an unprecedented event, the team managed to pull together and restore service in the shortest possible time, although removing the overturned locomotive and loaded cars from all the tracks to ensure the railway line’s passability was truly a massive challenge. “We are grateful to our team, and we thank our passengers and customers for their patience. Most importantly, no one was injured in either incident,” said Arūnas Rumskas, Acting CEO of the LTG Group.
According to A. Rumskas, safety has been and remains the top priority on the railways.
Traffic has also been restored in Gudžiūnai (Kėdainiai District), but due to ongoing work on the signaling system, trains are running at reduced speeds on this section.
LTG has formed a commission to investigate the causes of the accidents in Gudžiūnai (Kėdainiai District) and Jiesia (Kaunas District). The LTG commission consists of all LTG’s top-level executives and the business resilience team.
