LTG Infra to Upgrade Railway Traffic Management System: More Automation, Safety and Efficiency

LTG Infra, part of the LTG Group, has signed an agreement with Spanish technology company Indra to modernise its railway traffic management system. Under the contract, an upgraded version of the Traffic Management System (TMS 3.0) will be deployed, with the supplier providing technical maintenance for the next 10 years.

The upgrade of the traffic management system is one of the most significant technological advancements in Lithuania’s railway infrastructure in recent years. The new platform will further digitalise railway network management, increase operational efficiency, strengthen safety and cyber resilience, and enable more effective use of existing network capacity.
According to Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, the upgrade of the traffic management system is a major step towards a more modern and efficient railway network.
“The railway traffic management system is one of the most critical infrastructure components ensuring safe and smooth train operations across the entire network. By upgrading it, we are creating the foundation for a more efficient, highly automated and future-ready railway management system. This investment will not only help us make better use of network capacity but will also enhance the safety and reliability of our infrastructure,” says V. Žalimas.
The upgraded TMS 3.0 system is based on cloud computing and microservices architecture. This technological solution provides greater flexibility, enables the safe and gradual deployment of new functionalities, and allows the system’s capabilities to be expanded quickly when needed without changing the overall platform architecture.
The updated system will provide traffic management specialists with a unified and integrated view of railway network operations, enabling faster decision-making based on more comprehensive real-time information. It will also optimise traffic planning and management processes, improve the utilisation of infrastructure capacity, and reduce operating costs.
A key innovation of TMS 3.0 is its higher level of automation. The system will be capable of automatically identifying potential traffic conflicts and assisting in resolving them in real time, contributing to smoother railway network operations and more effective operational decision-making. At the same time, it will comply with the highest standards of quality, reliability and safety, including the management of safety-critical functions.
The system’s flexible, modular architecture will also enable faster calculations, more efficient planning processes, and the integration of new traffic management functions within a single technological environment. This will make it possible to further develop the system in line with the growing needs of the railway sector and ongoing technological progress.
