LTG Infra and State Border Guard Service to Modernise Video Surveillance System at the Kena Border Control Point

LTG Infra, the infrastructure company of the LTG Group, together with the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), will upgrade the video surveillance system at the Kena railway border control point. The project aims to strengthen security at one of Lithuania’s most important external European Union border crossing points, enhance prevention capabilities, and ensure a more effective response to incidents.

The Kena railway border control point is one of the most important external EU border control points and is used by holders of Facilitated Rail Transit Documents. In response to evolving security threats and the need to ensure effective state border control, the site’s video surveillance system will be upgraded in line with the highest modern technological and security standards.

The project will be implemented by LTG Infra and will deliver a dual benefit. The modernised system will enable the SBGS to perform its responsibilities related to safeguarding the external border of the Republic of Lithuania and the European Union more effectively. At the same time, it will allow LTG Infra, as the manager of Lithuania’s public railway infrastructure, to ensure an even higher level of monitoring and protection of railway infrastructure assets.

Upon completion, the project will modernise the video surveillance infrastructure at the Kena railway border control point, improve the effectiveness of area monitoring, strengthen the ability to identify potential violations in a timely manner, and enable rapid response to incidents. The project will also contribute to the prevention of illegal border crossings, more effective risk management, and the continuity of operations.

“Safe and reliable infrastructure is an integral part of both the railway system and national security. By modernising the video surveillance system at the Kena border control point, we are contributing not only to the more effective protection of railway infrastructure but also to one of the state’s most important responsibilities: ensuring the security of the European Union’s external border,” says Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra.

The project will be financed under the Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument, which forms part of the Integrated Border Management Fund 2021-2027 programme. In accordance with the project implementation plan, LTG Infra will organise public procurement procedures, coordinate project implementation, and ensure that all modernisation works are carried out in compliance with applicable legislation, as well as technical and security requirements.

The LTG Group, of which LTG Infra is a part, is the largest railway group in the Baltic States. The group operates in three main areas: freight and passenger rail transport, as well as the management, maintenance, and development of public railway infrastructure.
