Innovative Solutions for Employee Safety at LTG Group: Staff to Test Exoskeletons to Reduce Physical Strain

LTG Group is enhancing working conditions for its employees by introducing an innovative solution: staff working in rolling stock maintenance depots, road maintenance and repair, and warehousing will trial exoskeletons – specialised equipment worn on the body to reduce physical strain.

“We will be testing three different types of exoskeletons, selected with consideration for employees’ needs, the tasks they perform, and the specific requirements of their workplaces and processes. This equipment will not only make everyday tasks easier but also help protect employees’ health. By implementing innovations, we aim to achieve strategic Group objectives, including employee safety. Exoskeletons will therefore help strengthen our safety culture, raise awareness, and improve working conditions,” said Vytautas Bitinas, CTO at LTG Group.

According to V. Bitinas, this trial is a step towards sustainable development, in which technology serves people, rather than the other way around.

Employees from LTG Group’s freight transport company LTG Cargo, infrastructure management company LTG Infra, passenger transport company LTG Link, and the Railway Construction Centre will test exoskeletons from Austrian company SANO Transportgeraete GmbH in real working conditions.

Official distributors of the company’s products note that LTG Group companies are the first railway operators in the Baltic States to trial such technological solutions in practice.

Three different exoskeletons have been selected for the trial: the wearable LiftSuit Auxivo, which supports the back and hips; the Chairless Chair 2.0, which allows quick, easy, and flexible transitions between sitting, standing, and walking positions while supporting the back, hips, knees, ankles, and feet; and the Hapo Front, which reduces strain on the arms, shoulders, and elbows during tasks requiring prolonged arm extension in front of the body.

The trial aims to give as many employees as possible the opportunity to try the exoskeletons, with personal experience and feedback forming the basis for evaluating their effectiveness. On the basis of these responses, a decision will be made on whether to adopt the technology more widely across LTG Group companies.
