LTG Group Invites You to Celebrate Railway Workers’ Day: Special Routes, Open Railway Sites, and Exclusive Events

The last Saturday of August marks Railway Workers' Day – a unique opportunity to explore railways, their history, progress, and ongoing activities up close. LTG Group, which revived this tradition last year, invites you to join a series of events from 26th August to 15th September, where usually inaccessible sites will be opened, exclusive train routes offered, and cultural events and educational activities held.

“Railway Workers’ Day is special to everyone working at LTG Group. We want it to be special for everyone. That’s why we’re opening doors, preparing special routes, and sharing stories about the past, present, and future: from the development of railways to modern infrastructure, from culture to the largest construction projects in Lithuania,” says Aleksandras Zubriakovas, LTG Group’s Director of Corporate Affairs.

One of the most unique attractions this year is the Rail Baltica construction site, where visitors will be able to see the progress of the longest railway bridge in the Baltic States over the Neris River and learn about the unique environmental solutions applied to the project.

Modern logistics centres will also open their doors – visitors will have the chance to explore the operations of Vilnius and Kaunas intermodal terminals. Here, they’ll learn about intermodality and see for themselves how goods are efficiently and swiftly transferred from one transport mode to another, with Kaunas also offering the chance to see goods being transferred between different railway tracks.

For residents and visitors of Kaunas and Klaipėda, special train tours will be available. The ‘On Rails Through Kaunas’ route will take you through Freda, and Aleksotas to the S. Darius and S. Girėnas Aerodrome, where you’ll also discover Lithuania’s aviation history. The “Rails Through Small Lithuania” tour will take you from Klaipėda to Pagėgiai, offering the chance to explore the unique history and culture of Priekulė, Šilutė, and other localities.

The Railway Museum in Vilnius has prepared many surprises for Railway Workers’ Day, including guided tours of the museum and the nearby Railway Park, new exhibition openings, and a celebratory week-ending concert by Pavilnio Big Band on 6th September in the Railway Park’s hangar.

Unforgettable experiences await those adventurous enough to take a walk across the Lyduvėnai Bridge, the longest and highest railway bridge in Lithuania, offering spectacular views of the Dubysa River valley. Tech enthusiasts can visit the New Vilnia electric train depot, where LTG Link trains have been maintained for over 40 years, or the Radviliškis railway junction, one of the oldest and largest in Lithuania, which is an integral part of Radviliškis city’s history.

Most of the tours and activities are free of charge, but pre-registration is required due to limited capacity. The events will be held in Lithuanian; however, this should not deter non-Lithuanians from enjoying the scenery, the music, and the overall experience.
