LTG Infra met with Rizzani de Eccher management to discuss construction of the Neris Railway Bridge

LTG Infra, the LTG Group company responsible for implementing the international Rail Baltica project in Lithuania, has met with the leadership of the Italian company Rizzani de Eccher, the contractor building the Rail Baltica bridge over the Neris River. The meeting focused on the status of construction works and the contractor’s financial situation.

According to LTG Infra CEO Vytis Žalimas, who met with the company’s leadership, LTG Infra has been closely monitoring both the project’s progress and the contractor’s financial standing, particularly since 2023, when the first public reports regarding Rizzani de Eccher’s restructuring processes emerged.

“We are aware that the general contractor, Rizzani de Eccher, is actively addressing its financial matters and maintaining dialogue with subcontractors in Lithuania. LTG Infra is involved where possible to ensure continuity of works and to reduce tensions among project participants. Together with Rizzani de Eccher, we are assessing all legal options, including the possibility of direct payments to subcontractors should that be required. Our priority is transparent project implementation and fair settlement with the market,” said V. Žalimas.

Last year, the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania achieved significant progress. The construction of the longest railway bridge in the Baltic States (1.51 km) has become one of the fastest‑advancing infrastructure sites. By the end of 2025, completed works accounted for half of all construction activities required for the bridge. A total of 376 underground piles have been installed, 11 supporting columns have been concreted, and construction of the upper deck has begun.

At present, due to the persistently extremely low temperatures, construction activities have naturally slowed across all worksites. However, contractors are implementing the necessary measures to ensure that adverse winter conditions have minimal impact on the planned schedule and that the teams are fully prepared to resume full‑scale operations once the weather improves.

“Progress across different sections of the project varies, which means that the construction timeline of the Neris River bridge does not affect the overall Rail Baltica implementation schedule in Lithuania. The bridge is a critical component of the project and will undoubtedly be completed. We have the legal instruments and safeguards necessary to ensure continuity, and we expect the current contractor to continue the works responsibly and fulfil its commitments,” said V. Žalimas.

The construction of the Neris bridge involves complex and advanced engineering solutions. Due to Natura 2000 protected area requirements, no supports will be placed in the riverbed. Three construction technologies are being used for the bridge deck: moving scaffolding, the balanced cantilever method, and a launching formwork system.

Rizzani de Eccher specialises in large‑scale, technically complex infrastructure projects, including bridges and viaducts that require advanced engineering expertise.

Rail Baltica is a strategic project for both the LTG Group and the European Union and is the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic States. Once completed, it will deliver an electrified European standard gauge railway line connecting Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Central and Western Europe, strengthening regional integration, civil and military mobility, and the overall resilience of the transport system.
