LTG Cargo Subsidiary Becomes a Railway Carrier in Germany
LTG Cargo, the freight transport company of the LTG Group, has taken a significant step forward through its Polish subsidiary: LTG Cargo Polska has obtained a General Safety Certificate in Germany. This means that the company will be able to independently carry out transport operations in Germany, ensuring even more efficient and effective provision of transport services.
“This is a significant achievement for the LTG Group and the entire Lithuanian transport and logistics sector. I am pleased that Lithuanian companies are consistently strengthening their positions in international markets. As the geography of transport services continues to expand westward, Lithuanian Railways is opening up more and more opportunities for new markets and further expansion,” says Deputy Minister of Transport Roderikas Žiobakas.
According to E. Šimė, this certificate is an important step in expanding the scope of transport services and strengthening logistics corridors between Germany, Ukraine, and the Baltic states. “Our priority is the quality of the regular intermodal route Duisburg–Kaunas–Duisburg. “The certificate obtained by LTG Cargo Polska allows us to manage the entire route ourselves, from loading in Lithuania to unloading in Germany, which ensures even greater delivery reliability for our customers,” says Eglė Šimė, head of LTG Cargo.
Last year, LTG Cargo Polska used EU funding to purchase new pocket wagons for intermodal transport between Kaunas and Duisburg. By expanding its fleet of owned rolling stock, the company is increasing the efficiency and reliability of its operations.
In 2024, LTG Cargo also obtained carrier licenses in Latvia and Estonia—this has enabled the company to transport cargo from Lithuania to Estonia more efficiently, without changing locomotives. In April of this year, LTG Cargo obtained an NCAGE code, allowing it to participate directly in NATO procurements. Together with LTG Cargo Polska’s license in Germany, this will facilitate the smoother organization of the transport of allied military equipment and other project cargo.
In addition to regular intermodal transport on the Duisburg–Kaunas–Duisburg route, LTG Cargo Polska also transports petroleum products between Poland and Germany.
LTG Cargo Polska currently employs 130 people. The company operates more than 350 European-gauge railcars and 20 locomotives, including modern Siemens locomotives that enable efficient international transport operations.
LTG Cargo is a company of the LTG Group that is actively continuing its integration and expansion efforts in Western markets. The company provides freight transport, logistics and freight forwarding, freight loading, locomotive and railcar repair, and railcar leasing services in Lithuania and abroad. It owns subsidiaries LTG Cargo Polska in Poland and LTG Cargo Ukraine in Ukraine.
