On Saturday, June 6, the third “Train Travelers’ Day,” initiated by the LTG Group’s passenger transport company “LTG Link,” took place. With a 90 percent discount applied to all local trips that day, 33,118 passengers traveled by train.

As is the case every year, Train Riders’ Day was marked by exceptionally high passenger traffic—according to LTG Link data, as many as 92 percent more passengers traveled by train this year than on a typical Saturday in June. In addition, nearly 1,000 people chose to take the train for the first time on this day.

“Rail Passenger Day is becoming a great opportunity for people to rediscover train travel—which is convenient, affordable, and sustainable. We’re seeing that more and more passengers are choosing this mode of transportation not just to try it out, but to incorporate it into their daily or leisure travel habits,” says Kristina Meidė, head of “LTG Link.”

LTG Link offers travelers 24 routes, with approximately 200 trips per day. On Train Travelers’ Day, the most popular routes were Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius (chosen by nearly 13,000 passengers), Vilnius–Trakai–Vilnius (more than 4,000 passengers), as well as Vilnius–Turmantas–Vilnius and Vilnius–Klaipėda–Vilnius, with nearly 4,000 passengers traveling in each direction.

Tickets for all local trips on June 6 were 90 percent cheaper. For example, a second-class trip from Vilnius to Kaunas, which normally costs 8.6 euros, cost just 0.86 euros on Train Passengers’ Day.

Last year, “LTG Link” transported nearly 6 million passengers.
