LTG Infra announces a tender for the purchase of X-ray equipment in Kybartai

LTG Infra, a company of the LTG Group, has announced a public tender for the design and construction of X-ray equipment and the necessary infrastructure at the Kybartai railway station on the border with Kaliningrad. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania. The contract with the winner to be signed in the third quarter of this year.

“LTG Group companies and the Customs Department cooperate closely in ensuring the control of cargos transported by rail across the border of Lithuania. LTG Infra and the Department jointly took care of the installation of the X-ray control system at the Kena railway border post. Thus, the project in Kybartais will be the second one we are implementing, thereby even better adapting the railway infrastructure to the inspection of incoming cargos,” says Karolis Sankovski, Director General of LTG Infra.

According to the statistics of the Customs Department, Lithuanian customs officials detained 854 thousand packs of cigarette contraband in railway transport in 2022 during pre-trial investigations. Most of the contraband was intercepted at the Kena railway station, but since the introduction of the X-ray control system in Kena, smugglers started to avoid transporting illegal cargos through this post.

According to representatives of the customs office, the implementation of the X-ray control system is an effective tool not only for preventing contraband hidden in railway transport, but it also contributes to ensuring more effective control of sanctioned goods.

The tender includes the purchase of X-ray system equipment and other necessary equipment (video surveillance cameras, sensors, computers), programming work, as well as the design and construction of infrastructure – structures and access roads – required for the X-ray system.

LTG Infra organizes the procurement procedures and will be responsible for contract control and supervision of the work in progress, while the Customs Department will be responsible for financing the equipment and will take over the management and operation of the X-ray system after the completion of the construction work.

LTG Infra is also planning to announce a tender for the purchase of X-ray equipment for the border post with Belarus at the Stasylai railway station soon.

Earlier this month, LTG Group, seeking more effective inter-institutional cooperation, renewed the cooperation agreement with the Customs Department. The updated agreement aims to carry out more effective control of cargos transported and passengers traveling by railway across the border of Lithuania, to ensure safe working conditions at railway stations and smoother cooperation in exchanging information.
