High-level attention to the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania

The President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, who is paying a state visit to Lithuania, together with the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, and representatives of the LTG Group, visited Rail Baltica construction sites in Lithuania today.

During the flight, the Presidents reviewed the existing and rapidly expanding European-gauge railway infrastructure, including:

Palemonas, where LTG Infra has launched a military mobility infrastructure development project. The site will be equipped with additional 1435 mm and 1520 mm railway tracks for the reception and servicing of military cargo. This will significantly strengthen Lithuania’s capacity to host and efficiently support NATO allies;

Rail Baltica sections currently under construction in Lithuania, where European‑gauge tracks have already been laid and embankment works and engineering structures are underway.

“Such a high level of political attention demonstrates that Rail Baltica is not only a strategic project for the future, but a solution already being implemented today—strengthening military mobility and economic potential. We had the opportunity to showcase progress at construction sites and openly discuss the challenges that require timely and determined decisions,” says Arenijus Jackus, CEO of LTG Rail Baltica in Lithuania.

According to Aleksandras Zubriakovas, LTG Group Director of Corporate Affairs, the visit addressed not only the pace of infrastructure development, but also its strategic significance.

“The LTG Group already operates European-gauge railway infrastructure today and is consistently expanding it. This sends a clear message to our partners that projects essential for Baltic integration, security, and resilience are not only reflected in strategic documents, but are being delivered in practice,” said A. Zubriakovas.

In Estonia, work on Rail Baltica is already underway across 107 km, including the Ülemiste terminal, which is already operational.

Rail Baltica is a strategic project for both the LTG Group and the European Union and is the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic States. Once completed, it will deliver an electrified European standard gauge railway line connecting Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Central and Western Europe, strengthening regional integration, civil and military mobility, and the overall resilience of the transport system.
