Train Ticket Prices Halved Until the End of the Year

In response to rising fuel prices and in an effort to mitigate their impact on residents’ expenses, train tickets for LTG Link, the passenger transport company of the LTG Group, will cost half as much. The 50 percent discount will be valid from October 9 through December 31 and will apply to all local travel.

“With fuel prices hitting record highs, we’re taking concrete action. Starting today, we’re offering residents the opportunity to travel by train for half the price, and starting in November—by intercity buses as well. Everyone—from families and seniors to students—will benefit from these discounts until the end of the year; people should not have to become hostages to rising prices. Previous discounts have shown that thousands of people discovered train routes and continued to travel by train even after the discounts ended. I have no doubt that even more people will discover rail travel by the New Year.

Moreover, travel will soon become more convenient—new Stadler trains will begin service, and work on the electrification of the Vilnius–Klaipėda line is nearing completion,” notes Minister of Transport Juras Taminskas.

A discount of the same amount on train tickets was already offered this spring. During the two months it was in effect, more than one million passengers took advantage of the discount, and ridership increased by 23 percent. According to Kristina Meidė-Bertašienė, head of LTG Link, previous results have shown that lower travel costs not only help reduce residents’ expenses but also encourage them to choose a more sustainable alternative for their daily commutes more often.

“It’s important for people to get to work, school, and their loved ones even as daily expenses rise. A price cut by half will help ensure this, while also encouraging those who have previously chosen other modes of travel to discover the train. Such initiatives help shape long-term travel habits and bring us closer to our goal of making trains the backbone of Lithuania’s transportation system,” says K. Meidė-Bertašienė, head of LTG Link.

What is important for passengers to know?

A 50% discount will be valid for three months—from October 9 until the end of this year—for travel on local routes. The discount applies to all types of tickets—both single-trip and multi-trip—as well as all train classes (first, second, and third).

Passengers will be able to take advantage of the 50% discount on tickets through all standard LTG Link ticket purchase channels—the website www.ltglink.lt, the mobile app, ticket vending machines, “Perlo” terminals, and on trains. The discount will be applied automatically, so passengers will not need to take any additional steps.

The 50 percent discount will be applied in conjunction with the benefits established by the Public Passenger Transport Law; for example, students and seniors are eligible for a 50 percent benefit. However, combining the 50 percent discount with the 50 percent benefit does not mean that train travel will become free.

For example, a student purchasing a ticket from Vilnius to Kaunas on the website will see a 50 percent discount automatically applied—the ticket price will drop from 8.6 to 4.3 euros. The student discount will be applied to the already reduced price, so the final ticket price will be 2.15 euros.

The 50 percent discount for train travel cannot be combined with other commercial discounts offered by LTG Link.
