Noise reduction

To reduce the impact of the railways on people living near the lines, we are building noise-reducing walls. More than 37 km of noise barriers have already been built on public rail infrastructure and the number is growing.

Examples of such projects are the noise walls installed in Šiauliai on Margiai Street (840 metres of walls) and in Lentvaris (1189 metres of walls) in 2021. In the same year, as part of one of the objectives of the National Transport Development Programme 2014–2022, a strategic noise map for public railway infrastructure was drafted.

In 2022, a noise map analysis was carried out to determine the extent to which the population is exposed to noise from above-ground rail traffic, and noise reduction measures were selected in priority locations.
